A tankless unit that has been running well for a couple of years and suddenly starts short-cycling or throwing an error code is almost never broken. It is almost always scaled.

Descaling is not optional in Dallas water. Sizing on the summer figure is how households end up running out of hot water exactly when they need it most. The cold water sandwich. A short burst of cold in the middle of a draw, usually noticed when someone turns the tap off and straight back on. Venting and permits. Tankless units have their own venting requirements, and condensing models produce acidic condensate that needs correct drainage and often neutralising.
